Foundations: Why can't there be one just for me?

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all doing well.  As you all know, I have very pale skin and I have been trying to find the perfect foundation for ages. I just can never seem to find the right shade and I have tried so many different foundations. It seems the more I try, the harder it is to find the perfect one. You see, I have do have blemish prone skin and my foundation has to provide a good coverage and be long lasting. I also have the issue of the foundations looking cakey on my skin. I want a natural look but still have the coverage I need. The problem is there is not a foundation out there that provides everything I need and also is the right shade for my skin. It can be so frustrating and at times I just want to give up. So today, I thought I would share with you the foundations I do own and my thoughts on each. Now some of these may work well for you but for me they are just not right.

REVLON COLORSTAY Combination/Oily Skin-  110 IVORY

I really wanted to love this foundation when I first tried it. I heard so many rave reviews and I thought maybe it just might work for me. The coverage is decent and the lasting power is ok but it makes my skin look so cakey even after it has been blended. It is also very hard to blend out. It dries quickly and you have to move fast. I also found that if you try to go back and blend a mistake out later, it just gets ruined. The color is definitely too dark for me but when it is blended it doesn’t look as harsh. It doesn’t look like it has a pink undertone on paper but on my skin it is very pink. It just doesn’t work. I almost done with this bottle and I will not repurchase it.
ALMAY CLEAR COMPLEXION MAKEUP FOR OILY SKIN- 120 IVORY

This foundation is very disappointing. Almay is supposed to be great for sensitive skin but the color ranges are just awful. It is way too dark (almost orange) and there is little coverage. Maybe if I were slightly darker or had better skin, it would be better but I just can’t find a way to wear it. I usually have to use a white foundation with most of my foundations but for some reason, the white foundation doesn’t help. I still have more than half the bottle left and I may have to end up throwing it out.

L’OREAL TRUE MATCH FOUNDATION – PORCELAIN W1

First of all, I have to give kudos to L’Oreal for having a huge color range in this brand. I do like this foundation and the color suits me better than any of the other foundation I own. The drawback? It doesn’t last on my skin and I have to build it up to have the coverage I need and then it starts to look cakey and unnatural. I have bought this product several times and I still will because it does work well on the days my skin is behaving. However, I wouldn’t wear it and expect it to last all day on my skin.

ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR FOUNDATION- SHELL 15
I had such high hopes for this foundation. I was so excited to try it and I hoped it would work for me. In the store, it was a perfect match but the first time I wore it, I knew that is was just all wrong. It is way too dark for my skin and white foundation has to be used to make it wearable. It is also very hard to blend and you have move quickly. The coverage is great and it does last on my skin but around my t-zone, it starts to look cakey and gross. I have to use a really good primer because it starts to melt into every crevice of my skin and just looks awful. At the end of the day, I look like I have scales and I am forced to powdered throughout the day to keep it at bay. I am almost done with it and I will not be repurchasing it.

REVLON COLORSTAY NORMAL/DRY SKIN- 110 IVORY

I just recently purchased this foundation. I decided to try out the normal/dry skin foundation in hopes that it does not leave my skin looking cakey. I do like it better than the one for combo/oily skin. The coverage isn’t as great but it is easier to work with which is a huge plus. It is still not the right shade for me but I still wear it and make sure to blend it out really well. I am still testing it out and I may feel differently in a few weeks.

CLINIQUE EVEN BETTER- 24 LINEN
Coverage? Not great. Longevity? Not great. Color? Not great. Overall satisfaction? Not great.  Need I say more?

MAYBELLINE FIT ME- 110 PORCELAIN

This foundation would be perfect for me if it wasn’t so streaky and sheer. The color is very close to my skin tone but still a tad too dark. It doesn’t last on my skin at all. I tried primers and powders but it doesn’t help much. I am not crazy about the scent either. It is not bad smell it is just not want I want to smell on my skin all day. However, I do love the color range and it looks very natural if blended out correctly. I need more coverage from it.

LAURA MERCIER TINTED MOISTURIZER OIL FREE- PORCELAIN

This is actually pretty good for a tinted moisturizer. It is not the best shade for me and I cannot wear it alone (need more coverage) but it does have quite a bit of pigmentation. It does feel heavy on my skin for some reason. If I had clearer skin, it would probably be better for me because I could blend it out more. The color needs to be little lighter or I just need to be slightly darker. Overall, I do like it but I don’t reach for it on the days I work or when I know a lot of people will be seeing me.

COVERGIRL AQUA SMOOTH- IVORY
The color is all wrong but I love the texture of this foundation. It feels great on my skin but I cannot wear it because it is just too dark. However, if it was a few shades lighter, I would always reach for it. It looks flawless on my skin and if I could find a way to mix it with the white foundation and still have it keep its texture, I would wear it every day. The lasting power is average and the coverage is decent but by no means perfect.

All of the swatches together.

So I am still on the hunt for the perfect foundation for me. Please feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions. At this point, I am willing to take what I can get. I plan on finishing most of these off so I can feel better about buying another foundation. I hope you have a great day and I will be back soon!
